E9 Final

The Geowatch Review

Fig.1

Our Goal:

My groups overall goal of this project was to make a product that is useful in everyday life, innovative, cost efficient, and eco-friendly. This took us a lot of planning and and redesigning to finally get a product we were satisfied with. After scrapping a lot of our original ideas, we finally came up with the Geowatch. The actual creating of the product was a little difficult because we all had different opinions on what the watch would actually look like and it's base functions. As previously stated, we had to redo a lot of our initial designs because they didn't really fit our image too well, and the same goes for the packaging, which was a nightmare to finally put together.

Personal Review:

Even with all the setbacks and restarts we had to do, I felt like I learned a lot from this project. For instance I learned how to make a better website and in faster time for an overall great finished product, as seen in Fig.1. The other thing that was very important for me to learn was how to make complex shapes in Google Sketch-up like spheres and rounded objects. Although the project was a success in my eyes, there are still a few things I could do better. These things include spending more time on the packaging, paying closer attention to detail, and better time management for the production of our video. Also there were times that I should have made more time to help out my group mates and take a break from what I was doing so I could help them with what they were doing. There are many things I would have changed in the way I did things, but there are also a list of things that I wouldn't change. Out of all the things I wouldn't change, the number one thing would be my work scheduling. It is very hard to work on two major aspects of the project at a time, and time management is a crucial step involved in the process. I felt like I was working really hard and did my best to stay organized and on task. Finally, I wouldn't change my approach to this product. My approach was to utilize as much of the resources that were available to me to create a product that was outstanding. It involved a lot of research and learning how to create complex shapes, as demonstrated in Fig.2. Overall I believe this was a very well put together project, that I benefited from, as well as learning how to work well with other people.

The Video:

Our commercial was a very tiring process and involved multiple reshoots to get that "just right" shot. The editing of the video was a very challenging task as I had to edit out background noise and trim the clips to make it run smoothly without a lot of jumping around. In the end, our group used Kierstyn's video because we though it was the best video at the time. Kierstyn and I worked the most on the actual filming, using Jared and Ben as the main actors, while putting ourselves into the video as well. I believe the commercial was a huge success and accurately portrayed what our product was.

GeoWatch Final Product

Our Product is the GeoWatch Traveler. It is a teleportation watch that can transport you anywhere that you want to go to. Say for instance you are having a pretty rough day at work or school and want to relax, you can just put in your destination and relax at the beach for a few hours. The Traveler is a more fuel efficient and eco-friendly way of transportation. Our video was a testimonial of all the happy and satisfied customers and their opinions on the traveler. We implemented cut to make it seem like you teleported and a few more effects to really make it work.

Color psychology

The two shower gels I chose were Axe shower gel and L'Oreal for kids. The Axe bottle was white which represents a number of things. White can represent purity, innocence, sterility and wiping the slate clean. It is the fourth point that I think fits the Axe bottle perfectly. Because Axe is a shower gel, it is used to clean things, this reminds me of wiping the slate clean because you are washing away the day and starting fresh. The L'Oreal bottle is red, the color of energy, excitement and warmth. This shower gel is aimed towards kids, which is why red is such a perfect color, because it energizes the kids, it makes them excited, and most of all it will make them feel overall a little more happy.

Photoshop projects

In this project I overlaid multiple photos and adjusted the opacity of them to make it look like one big picture. I also used the clone stamp tool to remove light poles and to move grass to cover up cars. I also had to resize pictures to make them fit in the overall picture. Finally I used text types to create giant letters and to wrap them in the photo.
In this project I learned how to use the magic wand to change colors on a symmetrical plane, use the clone stamp tool to create a "moving" effect, and how to trim down an image to make it look nice.

In this project I learned how to edit a background image, place a text wrap on the background and then make that text gradient and fit the picture.

In this project I used the magnetic lasso tool to crop out the raven head and paste it into the original picture, then I had to copy the other pictures, resize them, and put them in place while lowering the opacity levels.

What is Graphic Design?

What is graphic design? Graphic design is a type of art style that is used to make logos, color wheels, and so much more! Graphic design is an outburst of your creativity. When designing something, you can make it as crazy and colorful as you want, or sleek and snazzy. Overall, it is a way of expressing something using colors and shapes, with a creative twist to draw people in.

Font Personality

The font style I got was Archer Hairline. This font describes me as emotional, understated, progressive, and disciplined. I feel like this really describes me because I have all of these traits and use them a lot more than I think. I am constantly showing a variety of emotions, but sometimes can get a little out of hand. Next I am pretty understated, in my opinion. I am a pretty subtle person and am pretty relaxed, but I can be easily overwhelmed by huge tasks or other big events. Then I am very progressive because I am constantly moving forward and I love to explore new ideas and use them in everything I do. Finally I am very disciplined because I am a rule follower and I don't get out of line or out of hand too often.

Final for Web

In this quarter I did the video branch of E-Comm. In this branch we learned how to film a video properly, edit a video, what the 6 shots in the six shot sequence were, and how to work well with others. Learning how to make a proper video was a very critical part of this branch. Without knowing what you're doing can lead to some very bad videos and make your project look like trash. Also if you didn't use the six shot sequence, your video would have lots of jumps, skips, and just flat out look weird and confusing. Editing a video was almost as important as filming. You have to make sure that the clips flow smoothly, cut out unnecessary parts of clips, make sure the sound effects are fitting, and making sure it is the best quality it can be. Then if all that doesn't seem hard, then working with others will be a big shocker for you. I know what your thinking, "How hard can working with others be?" well it can be quite difficult at times, with people arguing, trying to set up shots, people being absent, etc. can make working with others stressful. On the other hand, working with others can be a fun and  rewarding process as you make new friends, and have fun in the whole process of making the video! Then after video you start web design. Web design was a fairly simple, thanks to some handy step by step instructions, but it still required you to think on your own. In other words, it was a learning experience that turned out to be really cool. We used the Adobe DreamWeaver software, which is really easy to use, and is quite fun to mess around with. Overall, this was a really fun, and interesting quarter. I learned new things, made new friends, and just had a blast, all while working on assignments that didn't really feel like assignments, but rather a fun learning experience.
